I'm a renter so I was looking for a way to hang family photos and artwork in my home without putting holes in the walls. Last year I decided to try the 3M Command picture hanging strips for the first time.
During the fall of 2009 I used the strips to hang five 8x10" photo frames. The strips were easy to use and performed just as promised. Later I added two 4x6" photo frames. It's nearly been a year and they have held up well, never once coming loose or falling down.
This year I bought more picture hanging strips and used them on two medium photo frames, three large photo frames, a wood "welcome" plaque, and a painting. Everything is still holding up well. The one exception is the wood plaque, which fell when I slammed the door. (It's back up on the front door's exterior now without issue).
My one complaint is that these strips cost more than I feel they are worth since they are not re-usable.
Inconsistent performance August 10, 2010

I was a fan of these Command strips after using them in my dining room to hang more than 10 family photos in frames. They have been up for months with no problem. I used the strips to hang a small clock and three framed pieces and ALL items landed on the floor. Thinking I may have made a mistake with the directions, I rehung the clock repeating all the steps in the instructions. Less then 24 hours after hanging the clock I was picking it up off the floor. I need to call 3M and see if I can get some $$ back since I spent over $20 on Command strips and they are all going in the trash.

if you want broken frames from pictures falling off walls buy this It Does Not Work

I decided to decorate my bedroom with some 40 pictures of various films and TV series that I've liked throughout life.
Each of these pictures are in a frame that MIGHT be HALF A POUND, if it's lucky. 3M advertises that 2 of this product on the top and bottom of the frame should be enough to hold up to TWO pounds to the wall indefinitely.
Which apparently is why I am picking up pictures from the floor almost on a daily basis. The first few smashed, and I have since taken to putting old clothes around the perimeter of my room to catch falling pictures, until I find a product to use OTHER than this one. This product falls off the wall after just a few DAYS of use, let alone months. In many instances, it will take the paint of the wall with it. I've had to replace at least 6 frames, and about $70 worth of this product had to be thrown in the trash for uselessness.
I emailed 3M with what I thought was a very friendly but serious letter, asking what I should do about this, if they had any recommendations, etc. Two weeks have gone by, and I have so far been ignored. Way to treat someone who has bought about 25 of these packages in the last month!
Avoid at all costs. They sound a lot better than they perform.
