5 out of 5 stars Good product...good price...quick delivery   September 10, 2010
"Shadow" (Kentucky)
I did cosiderable research on Cordless Phones before purchasing this product about 1 month ago.....I have found Panasonic phones to be most reliable in the past, not sorry I purchased this Panasonic model.

I like the "Voice CID" feature which does an average job in pronouncing the callers name...some names better than others. You can choose to disable this feature if you want. The large screen on the handset is clear and the ability to label each handset comes in handy for me.
If your phone service is interrupted, a message is displayed on the hand set screen indicating.."Check phone line".

I like the fact that the handset uses 2 individual rechargeable AAA N-MH batteries which will save considerable money when battery replacement is necessary. You can purchase a "4 Pack" from the drug store for $10.00 ($5.00/phone) vs. $20.00/phone with the specialty plug-in style from Radio Shack. With 5 handsets,... better off to purchase a new system.

I wish the base unit answering machine had a digital screen which showed # of new calls and old calls. It does not "Beep" when a new call has been received...which I like. The base unit and handset provides a flash signal for recorded messages...for me, that is sufficient.I don't have to leave the dinner table to cut off an annoying "Beep" for unanswered calls.

Set-up is simple...I found it easier to use the "Code Entry" option vs. the Menu.

Beach Camera was my supplier through Amazon..fast and correct delivery.

5 out of 5 stars Good purchase if you need cordless phones   September 2, 2010

The Panasonic system is good quality with both clear speakerphone on each handset (which I use all the time) and large display that is backlit when ringing and dialing. With five handsets you can distribute around the home. I put one in a detached garage that about 175 feet from the base unit through three walls so it does have range for most applications. Battery life is good, and now the new units have replaceable AA batteries (unlike the older units that had speciality replacement batteries). Good value for the money.

4 out of 5 stars Like this machine, but has a big flaw I didn't expect   August 31, 2010

Bought this unit a couple of weeks ago from Amazon. I'm also a member at Costco and realized after the fact that they had the same/similar unit for what I think is a cheaper price, so check there first if you have access.

So far so good except for one item I'll get to in a moment. Setup was a breeze, batteries require charging for 24 hours before you use them and the battery indicators are pretty advanced on these units compared to the other cordless phones I've owned (many different systems). Sound quality and range are both very good, and I've used the handset with both a plug-in headset and speakerphone and its fine. First system I've owned that has integrated handsets that share a phonebook and also display info from the base unit, nicely done. I don't currently have caller ID on the home line so can't comment on that feature.

The big flaw in this unit is that the answering machine DOES NOT BEEP when you have a messaging waiting. I place the unit outside of the 'normal path' in our kitchen and every single answering machine I've owned in the past 30 years has an audible alert to let you know a message is waiting. This one doesn't. I've read the manual, played extensively with the unit options and even called Panasonic and they said "sorry, there is a visual notification on handset". So every handset lets you know there is a message with an alert, and the base unit has a tiny little red LED light that blinks, but no beep or chirp to let you know there is a message waiting. I suppose I'll get used to it and learn to look at the phone every time I walk into the house, but I don't want to and don't like it. If you have the unit somewhere you don't look it regularly and care about getting your messages, get something else.

Compared to: I replaced an AT&T 5.7 ghz + 3 handset unit (~3 years old) with this device because the base unit stopped charging the handset. Also have a second Motorola 5.8 ghz set on the upstairs of our house for work and in bedrooms.

The phones are distributed around the house. The main location (base station) needs to be connected to a phone line, but the others sit in their cradle that only needs power for charging. Really like the intercom system (you can call from on phone to the other), call blocking (with caller id you can block telemarketers - they get a ring and then a busy signal), being able to "drain" messages from any house phone (you don't need to go to the base station and, of course you can "drain" them from any remote location with a passcode), and etc.
