Product Description Bestseller Patterson's 14th Alex Cross thriller doesn't follow up on the plot threads left dangling in 2007's Double Cross concerning still-on-the-loose serial killer Kyle Craig. Instead, Cross, a Washington, D.C., police detective, takes on a very different quarrya human monster known as the Tiger with ties to the African underworld. When the Tiger and his teenage thugs butcher writer Ellie Cox, her husband and children in their Georgetown home, Cross is devastated because Ellie had been his girlfriend in college. The Cox family massacre proves to be just the first in a series. Cross pursues the Tiger to Nigeria, where the profiler finds himself at the mercy of corrupt government officials who may be working with the Tiger. Spending less time than usual exploring his villains psychological backstory, Patterson delivers an atypical tale of James Bondstyle revenge. Craig's brief cameo toward the end suggests the series will resume its usual path in the next book. (Nov. 17)

Book Received Not In New Condition March 16, 2010 Vernon L. Payne I expect books in perfect condition when I purchase them from Amazon. The jacket to this book looked rather worn. I was surprised since this was the first time this had happened.
158 "CHAPTERS" in 403 pages??!! March 15, 2010 reviewer16 The dimensions are correct, but "448 pages"? My Vision reprint copy has only 427 pages (403 pages devoted to the story, the balance being 'previews'). I found the story content only fair to poor (and a lesson for me to avoid newer Patterson books and stick with his much earlier editions).
What I found especially disturbing for a short novel, was it having no less than ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY-EIGHT chapters!!!
Each chapter has one to two pages of 'blank' page, so it's easy to see that 403 pages of story, minus (conservatively estimating I believe) 158 blank pages devoted to "chapters", reduces the story down to about 245 pages. I mean, really, these are one to three page "chapters". Ugh!!! What a rip-off!
The print size is also LARGER than what I see as normal. That is, each page merely has 35 lines. For this size book, I'm used to 38 lines. So, the larger type reduces the story content still further to the equivalent of 35/38 x 245 pages = about 225 pages.
So, if you're buying this book expecting "448 pages" worth of story for your money, you may be very peeved to encounter what I see as the equivalent of merely 225 pages.
Great! March 15, 2010 L. Roberts (Shelby, NC) This book was shipped fast and in excellent condition. Would definitely buy from this seller again!
(RAW Rating:3.5) - Chasing Criminals March 5, 2010 The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Alex Cross is pulled into yet another brutal homicide. But, this time it is someone he knows very well--Ellie Cox, an ex-girlfriend from college. Not only is she murdered, but her entire family as well and it is one of the most gruesome scenes Alex has encountered in a long time. Thus begins a series of killing sprees in Washington, DC that leaves entire families murdered, but not before being brutally tortured. Alex gets a break that yields him the name Tiger. Tiger, the proposed mastermind behind all the slayings, is purported to be a leader of an underground world of an organized gang of teenaged thugs trained to be killing machines. With his ear to the ground, Cross learns Tiger has left the country for his home in Nigeria.
Not mystified or worried about any potential danger, Cross sets out for Nigeria leaving his family and current girlfriend in DC in order to pursue and capture a brutal killer. He walks right into Tiger's lair and it will take all of his expertise and a lot of luck to get out of it. Before all is said and done, he will discover horrific things he never imagined about Africa, lose another potential love interest and open his family up to a master killer.
In CROSS COUNTRY, James Patterson puts my favorite character in a situation he and I are unaccustomed to. Cross takes on the role of pursuing a killer to a country where he appears to have no clue about the political atmosphere there. Not only that, but he appears to have no backup help as he pursues his investigation. Frankly, for someone in law enforcement and as meticulous as Cross is, this is quite an unbelievable role and it made the whole book incredulous. Although believability had a hold on me with this one, Patterson can still spin a story that keeps you planted and turning pages.

I HATED THIS BOOK February 17, 2010 Gary T. Farr (Forest Hill, MD) Cross Country (Alex Cross)This book was the worst book I have ever listened to. I love the Alex Cross series and I was so excited to get the next book, but after 1/4 of the book I could hardly believe it. I almost sent it back to the library without finishing it. Alex was irresponsible, reckless, and bordering on cheating on Bri. This book was horrible. This is not the Alex Cross I know and have grown to love.
