4 out of 5 stars I like it   July 30, 2010

Liked this thing so much I bought a second one and gave it to my daughter-in-law. Now I understand they are selling for $139. What a buy.

3 out of 5 stars Rip Off   July 30, 2010

I am really upset with Amazon's Kindle marketing. The Kindle was purchased in April 2010 for $259. A month before that Amazon sold that Kindle for $249, then the the price was raised $10. Then, a couple of months later Amazon drops the price for the Kindle to $189 (for a newer product that is much easier to read in sunlight - even though the product I bought was supposed to be easy to read in sunlight - not really the case).

I feel this is absolutely wrong, especially in these economic times. In my opinion, the $70 difference would have purchased a lot of books. I purchase a lot of items from Amazon. Sometimes I pay a bit more because I like the service Amazon has. Now I will be less likely to go to Amazon as my first choice because of this Kindle pricing tactic. I lost a lot of trust in Amazon. I realize Amazon can do what they want with their products, but believe me I will hesitate before purchasing again from Amazon. You truly have done your customers a disservice with Kindle. Now I regret that I purchased the item. It is my fault I was suckered by Amazon.

I can not give the item fewer stars because it is okay except for the screen contrast especially in daylight. If this were rating the item on Amazon selling tactics I would give it less that 1 star.

4 out of 5 stars Loving my kindle, with a couple of buts   July 30, 2010

I have really enjoyed my kindle. I have loved being able to start reading a new book as soon as I hear about it. I travel a lot and I read a lot and so the kindle is my perfect companion - as necessary as my laptop. And I have been reading a lot of literature I would not usually read, because I just couldn't afford to carry it in my luggage. I love the fact that the battery doesn't run dry.

A couple of comments, though. In the next generation of kindles I hope the download of the next page gets faster, since I find it difficult to look at the switch between the light and dark screen. Also, it will be good when you have a Table of Contents in all books and just be able to go to the first page so that you can go back to a chapter easily (even if like me you have forgotten to bookmark it). Finally, I am sure you are working on the formatting of the text so that there are spaces between different sections, which sometimes doesn't happen, and also the words don't break in the wrong places, which sometimes does happen.

At first I didn't get a cover for it, but then I did. It has been well worth it.

I am very impressed though, all in all, and will look forward to newer and newer generations of kindles as well as more and more books on kindle.

5 out of 5 stars I love it!   July 30, 2010

I've always loved to read, but for a long time I've resisted trying an e-book reader because I like real books. But I finally bought a Kindle for the convenience of being able to carry multiple books with me on a trip, in such a single, compact package. I did not anticipate how much I would enjoy the reading experience on it. I'm a convert!

5 out of 5 stars My Kindle   July 30, 2010

I love my kindle. My husband brought it for my birthday against my wishes. I thought how stupid it was to spend that much money to buy books that I could get at a used book store, so much cheaper. Well I was wrong. I take it everywhere and I am averaging a book a week or less. It fits on my treadmill and it is so much easier to turn the pages. I also discovered that I could read the same book on my droid incredible and Amazon knows just where I left off on whichever medium I use. How smart is that ? A five star rating is a must. Think how great it will be when I take it on vacation.
